Sei Miguel

Esfíngico (2010)

Suite for a Jazz Combo
New jazz has emerged in an unexpected place. This time Lisbon is where it's at. (Joe Morris)

The Tone Gardens (2006)

"as deceptively simple and unfathomably complex as a shaft of sunlight breaking through the leaves." (The Wire)
“a refreshing, thought-provoking performance, beautifully conceived." (Bagatellen)

Token (1999)

Slow to develop, this beguiling music luxuriates in its own ample space. All of the musicians do come together for the final piece, the most spaced-out wah-wah blues you'll ever hear. A very satisfying recording which gains in impact each time it is played. (Rubberneck)

Showtime (1996)

Now out of print, a beautiful record documenting my first recorded collaboration (on guitar) with Sei Miguel (trumpet), also featuring Fala Mariam (trombone), Luís San-Payo (snare), Menina do Tambor (gong) and Pedro Bretes (bass).

MIMEO

Wigry (2011)

Poland, November 2009 - possibly MIMEO's best live performance ever (at least up to 2011), recorded with Wigry's church beautiful acoustics and skillfully mastered to vinyl by Marcus Schmickler. Double LP release only.

Sight (2007)

For the sight project each of the eleven members of MIMEO spread across Europe were asked to place approximately five minutes of sound anywhere they chose onto a blank sixty minute CDR. This was done independently of one another, with no communication between the musicians about how or where the music should be distributed on the disc.

Lifting Concrete Lightly (2004)

Recorded live in and around the Oscar Niemeyer Pavillion at the Serpentine Gallery in London, one of MIMEO's best concerts ever on a triple CD, this one lasting almost 4 hours.

The Hands of Caravaggio (2002)

Live recording at Angelica Festival in Bologna, featuring special guest John Tilbury

Electric Chair + Table (2000)

The all-star experimental electronics ensemble, apart from giving three concerts in three days, recorded two non-public sessions. From the seven hours of recorded material, two members of the MIMEO, Marcus Schmickler and Rafael Toral, each edited one disc. (All music guide)
